On this walking tour, you‘ll explore Bristol‘s oldest neighbourhood and find out what makes this area unique. You’ll pass coaching inns, hidden priest holes, independent breweries and music venues, each with their own fascinating layers of history and culture.

The tour starts at Castle Bridge, where you‘ll hear about Bristol‘s Anglo-Saxon origins and how the city got its name. You‘ll walk through Castle Park, find remnants of Bristol Castle‘s curtain wall, and discover how this once-mighty fortress shaped the surrounding area. In the Old Market itself, you’ll see where trading has taken place for almost a thousand years.

We'll discover hidden remains of Bristol's Norman castle in the park. You can choose to, have a beer in Left Handed Giant Brewpub or, on a sunny day, relax on the grass in the park and people watch.

We'll stop outside this traditional pub to learn all about the interesting history, and stop for a pint if you like.

We walk the whole of Old Market Street and learn what the area began as a thousand years ago and how history has shaped it into the vibrant neighbourhood it is today.

Pass and learn about the former church, which is now known for brilliant live music and community events.

We'll pass by the storied Central Hall. Entry to the Hall is not included.

We'll walk by the lovely Newtown Park.

We'll pass by the Old Market Assembly, a Bristolian institution.

We'll walk along one of Bristol's most famous streets.
