Detailed itinerary

1

When we driving on the road heading to Elafonissi just after the village Topolia, we will go through a small tunnel. Exactly at the tunnel's exit, high up on your right, you will see the opening of a cave and an unusual metallic star reflecting the sun's rays.

This is the entrance to an interesting cave named for Agia Sofia.

Exotic beaches with white sand and turquoise water, reminding of the Caribbean, are formed on either sides of the peninsula. The sand is pinkish in many places, taking its color from millions of crushed shells. Near the breaking point of the peninsula, the sea water does not exceed 1m in depth, creating a small lagoon, ideal for children. You can easily cross the lagoon in order to reach the opposite site of the peninsula, while carrying your staff with you, because the water is very shallow there.

3

Chrysoskalitissa Monastery is a 17th-century Orthodox Christian monastery . Built up on rocks some 35 metres high, it overlooks the Libyan Sea. According to local tradition, the name of the monastery is derived from one of the ninety steps which lead there, which is said to be golden ("chryso" in Greek) and visible only to devout Christians. The monastery is dedicated to the Holy Trinity ("Agia Triada") and the Dormition of Virgin Mary ("Koimisis Theotokou").

4

Elos village is one of the most beautiful traditional villages of Kissamos area. It is placed around a forest of chestnut trees which is full of natural water sources. In the village center there are a few cafes where you can enjoy a cool drink under the tall trees as well as taverns, mini markets, bakery, general practitioner and grill house.

Furthermore a few traditional taverns with Cretan cuisine and local specialties lie in Elos. Elos is 24 kilometers away from Kastelli Kissamos.
