The Egyptian Museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and home to the world’s most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Its impressive galleries span thousands of years of history, showcasing treasures from the Predynastic era through the Greco-Roman period.

Designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon after winning the world’s first international architectural competition in 1895, the museum officially opened its doors in 1902 under Khedive Abbas Helmy II. Today, it remains a prominent cultural landmark in downtown Cairo, offering visitors an extraordinary glimpse into the brilliance of ancient Egyptian civilization.

3

The Giza Pyramid Complex—also known as the Giza Necropolis—stands proudly on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo and is one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites. This extraordinary area is home to the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, the legendary Great Sphinx, and several surrounding pyramid complexes. Built during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom (circa 2600–2500 BC), the site also includes ancient cemeteries and the remains of a workers’ village that once supported the construction of these monumental wonders.

Positioned on the edge of the Western Desert, the complex lies approximately 9 kilometers west of the Nile River in Giza and about 13 kilometers southwest of downtown Cairo. Recognized for its outstanding universal value, the Giza Pyramid Complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, alongside the nearby ruins of Egypt’s ancient capital, Memphis.

4
Stop 4

The Great Sphinx of Giza is the world’s most iconic sphinx, carved directly from bedrock during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty (circa 2613–2494 BC). As the oldest known sphinx in Egypt, it symbolizes royal power and authority, featuring the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh—a timeless emblem of strength and leadership in ancient Egyptian culture.
