Located in the valley between the Palatine and Aventine hills, today a public open space, it was the largest structure used for chariot races in Rome, able to accommodate around 250,000 spectators
Known abroad as the "Spanish Steps", it's not Spanish at all. It's actual name is Trinità dei Monti Steps (Scalinata della Trinità dei Monti), the name of the church, built by the French community settled in that area, on top of the Steps. Indeed, Spanish is the square at the bottom of the steps (Piazza di Spagna).
In Piazza Venezia, it is the monument built between 1885 and 1935 to celebrate the unification of Italy and its first king, Vittorio Emanuele.
Since 1921, it has also been the memorial to the Unknown Soldier
The Pantheon, from the ancient greek Pantheion, the "temple of all the gods", is the best preserved ancient building in Rome. Built in the 3rd decade of the 2nd Century AD under the reign of the emperor Adrian (who allegedly designed it) on the site of an earlier temple, it became a Catholic church since the beginning of the 7th century. It is still in use today.
