Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

The Pena Palace was recently named one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. It will amaze you with its refinement and originality. It dates back to 1838, when King Ferdinand II built it on the ruins of an old convent. As was fashionable at the time, the palace combines many historical styles, from Moorish to Renaissance. Its white walls were inhabited by Portuguese monarchs and their families for almost four centuries. Like other royal residences, this palace will capture your heart, especially with its lavish interiors. You will find the Swan Hall, the Arabian Hall, the Magpies Hall and the Hall of Arms. The palace is surrounded by a large park full of greenery, pavilions, fountains and turrets.

Stop 2

Quinta da Regaleira is also known as the palace of the millionaire Monteiro. This wealthy businessman was obsessed with mysticism and built a magnificent Gothic masterpiece in Sintra, with a chapel, a beautiful park, fountains and grottos. The palace has five floors (ground floor, three upper floors and a basement). The ground floor consists mainly of a series of corridors connecting the living rooms. On the first floor are the bedrooms and dressing rooms, and on the second floor are Carvalho Monteiro's office and the servants' rooms. On the third floor is the ironing room and in the basement are the male servants' bedrooms, the kitchen with lift and the storeroom. Among the many attractions of the park are two inverted towers that resemble wells. These wells were never used as a source of water, but were used for ceremonial purposes during initiation ceremonies.
