Prometheus cave, is located near the Georgian town of Tskhaltubo, 20 km away from Kutaisi in Imereti region in the West of the country. Everyone knows legendary Prometheus who under Greek mythology stole fire from Gods was chained to Mountain. Georgians have a famous myth like this too. The legend says that Amirani, like Prometheus, angered the gods and was punished. Days and nights eagle tormented him eating his liver; however, in contrast to the Greek giant, cruel gods chained Amirani not to the rock, but somewhere inside a huge cave. Presumably, it is in Prometheus cave, one of the most colorful place in Georgia. Here you can observe stalactites, stalagmites, underground river and lakes, nice 1.2km walk in mysterious and cool atmosphere and short boat trip if interested. Its unique features include a variety of halls and landscape diversity. Four distinct layers were formed during different stages of the Earth’s development and tourists are able to journey through the historic territory. All cave is spectacularly highlighted by one of the most amazing feature of the place – an underground light system filled with LED lights. So visitors are amazed by those breathtaking views.
