The magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari stands among the greatest funerary monuments of the ancient world, rivaling even the Pyramids in its grandeur. Carved into the towering cliff that overlooks the Valley of the Kings, the temple rises over three vast terraces connected by ramps, each lined with simple, square-pillared colonnades. Named after one of Egypt’s rare female pharaohs, Hatshepsut proudly called her monument the "Splendor of Splendors." While much of the structure dates back to earlier rulers, starting with Mentuhotep II around 2050 BC, many of its sphinxes and statues have disappeared over time, giving it a more austere, monumental look. Inside, the cool stone chambers provide a refreshing retreat from the desert heat, showcasing well-preserved wall reliefs and vibrant hieroglyphics in vivid colors.

The Valley of the Kings is a treasure trove of archaeological wonders, housing numerous tombs decorated with intricate art and hieroglyphics. Discover the tomb of King Tutankhamun, the valley’s most renowned site, then explore the temples of Ramses II’s sons, Amenhotep III, and others to marvel at centuries-old art and artifacts.

Though little remains of Amenhotep III’s grand memorial temple, the two towering statues that once flanked its entrance have stood firm for over 3,400 years. Today, visitors can admire these colossal sculptures on the Nile’s west bank, just across from Luxor. Alongside the massive statues of the pharaoh, smaller figures of his wife, Tiy, and mother, Mutemwia, can also be seen. Nearby, sandstone panels carved with images of the Nile god Hapy showcase the artistry of the era. While much of the Colossi has weathered the centuries, the site still evokes the grandeur and awe it originally commanded.
