All of them are within 1 hours drive from the city. And the skiing costs are much more affordable comparing to other countries.

Shymbulak is the most popular and the highest located ski resort in Central Asia with the upper station located at 3200 meters above sea level. You will have a chance to ski at the beginner slopes of the resort with an experienced instructor who will teach you the basics or improve your technique.

Medeu skating rink is one of the highlights of soviet architecture in Almaty. Build in 1974 the complex has become famous for its unique location in the high mountains and perfect conditions for skating sports. At the moment the complex is under complete reconstruction for a couple of years. During the tour you will see it from the cable car on the way to the Shymbulak resort.

Oi Qaragai is an alternative ski resort located in 1 hour drive from Almaty with scenic views and variety of mountain slopes. Good option for skiers who already has some experience, but is not pro yet.
