Your winter adventure begins at one of America’s most iconic landmarks, Mount Rushmore National Memorial. In the colder months, this place feels quieter, calmer, and almost cinematic, with crisp mountain air, snow-dusted pine trees, and far fewer crowds than summer.
You’ll have time to take in the full view of the 60-foot granite faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln from the Grand View Terrace, where the monument stretches across the mountainside like something out of a storybook.
Inside the visitor area, you can browse exhibits that share the fascinating history behind the monument, including how it was carved into the rock and the engineering challenges that made it possible.

Next, you’ll visit the powerful and inspiring Crazy Horse Memorial, a one-of-a-kind mountain carving still being sculpted into the granite of the Black Hills. When you arrive, you’ll step into a warm and welcoming visitor complex where you can explore exhibits that share the story behind the memorial, the Native cultures of the region, and the mission to honor the heritage of the Lakota leader Crazy Horse.
Inside, you’ll have time to explore the Indian Museum of North America, featuring authentic artifacts, artwork, and displays from tribes across the continent.
