Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Porta San Sebastiano is the largest and best-preserved gate of Rome’s ancient Aurelian Walls. Once a key entrance to the city, it now stands as a remarkable example of Roman engineering and history.

2

The Museo delle Mura, located at Via di Porta San Sebastiano 18 in Rome, is a fascinating museum housed within the ancient Aurelian Walls. It offers visitors a unique look into the history of Rome’s fortifications, with exhibits on the construction, evolution, and defense systems of the city walls. Guests can also walk along a stretch of the wall for panoramic views and an immersive historical experience.

3

The Mausoleo di Cecilia Metella e Castrum Caetani is a majestic Roman funerary monument and medieval fortress complex on the Appian Way. Built between 30–10 BC to honor noblewoman Cecilia Metella, the cylindrical travertine tomb sits atop a square podium and features an ornate marble frieze with ox skulls (“Capo di Bove”). In the 14th century, the Caetani family added crenellations, a palace, church, and defensive walls, transforming it into a castle. Visitors can explore the ancient sepulchral chamber, medieval rooms, and the on-site Appia Museum showcasing sculptures, sarcophagi, inscriptions, and other relics from the historic route.

4

The Appian Way (Via Appia Antica) is one of the oldest and most important roads of ancient Rome, built in 312 BC. Known as the "Queen of Roads," it connected Rome to the southern regions of Italy and played a vital role in trade and military movement. Today, visitors can walk or cycle along its original basalt stones, surrounded by ancient tombs, mausoleums, and lush countryside. This historic route offers a peaceful and immersive journey through Rome’s rich past.

5
Stop 5

The catacombs of Rome are ancient underground burial sites that offer a fascinating glimpse into early Christian history. Winding through tunnels lined with tombs and frescoes, these sacred spaces reveal centuries of faith and tradition. Visitors can explore one of the most famous catacombs, including those of Domitilla, San Calisto, or San Sebastiano, each offering a unique and evocative journey into Rome’s hidden past.
