Sevanavank is a monastery named after its location on the top of the Sevan Peninsula at the source of the Hrazdan River. The time of construction of the temples existing today is the end of the 9th century. The patroness of the monastery, who allocated money for the construction of churches, is the daughter of the founder of the royal dynasty of Bagratuni - Mariam. Among the unique artifacts of the monastery, a carved wooden door stands out depicting the plot of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, a unique khachkar with the image of Jesus and illustrations to the gospel, which is quite rare for khachkars. The complex consists of the temples of St. Karapet and the Holy Apostles, built in the IX century. Once the monastery played the role of a fortress outpost, it was a strategic point glorified by the university.
