It is a former township, situated on the slopes of Signal Hill above the city centre and is a historical centre of Cape Malay culture in Cape Town. Visit the Atlas trading store established in 1946, this family-owned and run store with it's colorful history sells the heritage and culture of Cape Town in it's spices. Visit and take some insta-pictures of the colorful "Huurhuises" of the Malay Quarter. We Snack on local favorites like Samoosas, Chlli-Bites and melktertjies. We also visit the Bo-Kaap Museum.
Situated on Signal Hill close to the center of the city but since 1806 the Noon Day Gun has been a historic time signal in Cape Town before that it was the signal that informed early Dutch explorers that ships are coming into the bay.
We stop off for some artisanal Bean to Bar chocolate made from quality organically produced ingredients.
We leave the City and drive to Gatesville the home of the famous Gatsby. A Gatsby is a local favorite and is a cultural experience. A Gatsby is a South African submarine sandwich typically sold as a foot-long sandwich sliced into three or four portions. It is a popular sandwich in the Western Cape province. Golden Dish was voted Cape Town's best Gatsby spot in Cape Town in 2019.
We drive just a few blocks down to to Athlone to another of Cape Towns famous spots. Here we will have some local desserts some falooda or you might want to try the famous Wembley Whopper.
