About this experience

Having a full taste of Venice in one single day? Impossible is nothing.
A private guide will enter with you the magnificent Basilica, icon of the city and brilliant treasure chest for the relics of San Marco. The guide will then accompany you into the Doge’s Palace, the former residence of the Doge, the elected ruler of the city. A private gondola will then cradle you through the smaller canals, the perfect way to appreciate the beauty, charm and colour of this unique city built on water, listening to your guide’s descriptions.
And at the end, just a short walk to the waterfront to be picked-up by a private water taxi which will take you along the most spectacular street in the world: the Grand Canal, giving you a great overall view of the city covering many of the “sestieri” of the city.

Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Magnificent icon of the city and brilliant treasure chest for the relics of the Saint after whom it is named. Be prepared to walk under the golden mosaic domes and discover one of the most refined and accomplished works of Byzantine craftmanship, a masterpiece by generations of Venetian Goldsmiths: the “Pala d’Oro”.
You will enjoy the view from the terrace and find the original horses which are kept inside, and their interesting story

2
Stop 2

Our "Palazzo Ducale", a magnificent combination of Byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance architecture, the centre of the Venetian Empire and the seat of the Venetian Government.
It was once the residence of the Doge, the elected ruler of the city. You will pass through its lavish chambers, which display masterpieces by Tintoretto, Titian, Veronese and Bellini.
You will hear about the different roles played by the Doge and his counsellors, be entertained by the Venetian legends as you walk through the narrow passageways towards the prison cells whilst learning about the prisoners and of course, about Casanova, perhaps Venice's most famous and intriguing escapee.

3
Stop 3

you will discover “the most beautiful street in the world” and its magnificent palaces built over hundreds of years, which have made the “Canalasso” what it is today.
Let your imagination go back in time when the “squeri” (gondolas’ shipyards) were at their highest, the “fonteghi” were full of merchants, smells and colors and the most noble families used to party in their wonderful houses.
Why are there so many different styles and where are those moorish windows coming from? Your guide will be ready to answer these questions and many more; she will entertain you with the history of the buildings and the stories of their owners (some of them universally well known). You will recognize every single palace, you will learn who lived in there and you will understand why personalities like Shelley, Byron and Browning were so fond of Venice.
You will also navigate some smaller canals, to enjoy some delicious glimpses of small bridges, “fondamente” with local groceries, narrow streets: the true side of Venice, where the few Venetians still here live their city at the most.
Venice was built on the water, and from the water she gives her very best.
Your feet will be given a well-earned rest!
