This short loop begins and ends at the Mountain Vista Rest Area, at Mile 13 of the Denali Park Road. Enjoy panoramic views of the Savage River Valley to the south, Mount Healy to the north, and (on sunny days) Mount McKinley to the southwest.
This loop travels along either side of Savage River as it carves a canyon between Mount Margaret, to the west, and Healy Ridge, to the east. The trail goes nearly 1 mile before crossing the river with a bridge, and returning to the same parking area.
Horseshoe Lake is a lovely destination about 2 miles from the Denali Visitor Center. A trail loops around the entire lake, which is occasionally home to moose, beavers and a variety of bird-life.
Rangers and dogs work together to demonstrate a traditional Alaskan mode of travel. These unique, 30 minute programs include an opportunity to tour the park kennels and visit Denali's Alaskan huskies.
