Just Nuisance was a Great Dane who became the only dog ever to be officially enlisted in the Royal Navy. He lived in Simon’s Town from 1937 to 1944 and was a beloved friend and mascot of the sailors there. He liked to travel by train and boat with them, and he was given a sailor’s hat and a bed as part of his privileges. He also appeared at many events and fundraisers during World War II. He died on his seventh birthday and was buried with full military honours.
