About this experience

City tour in Meersburg including wine tasting - an ideal connection! For groups of 8 or more people.

Join us on a guided city tour of Meersburg and taste various Lake Constance wines during your tour!

Meersburg is nestled between vineyards. Enjoy the noble plants of the region in selected beautiful places in the old town, overlooking Lake Constance or amidst vineyards. Along the way, you will hear facts and anecdotes about Lake Constance wine.

Here on Lake Constance, the vines grow predominantly on ice age weathering soils - there is nowhere else in Germany! The terroir offers ideal conditions to produce fine wines. The mild climate, Lake Constance as a heat store, the reflection of the sun's rays on the heat-loving vines and the warm blow-dry winds from the Mediterranean ensure that excellent, award-winning wines grow on Lake Constance at an altitude of sometimes more than 500 m above sea level.

1

Our meeting point is at Bismarckplatz in Meersburg, right next to the Hotel "Wilder Mann", the Untertor and the lake promenade. Our guide and wine ambassador welcomes you here. With a glass of refreshing Lake Constance Prosecco you will learn interesting facts about Lake Constance, the region and of course the special features of Lake Constance wine.

Meersburg is nestled between vineyards, from which Meersburg winemakers produce delicious wines. Get to know Meersburg from its very special side as a traditional wine town and enjoy the noble plants of the region in selected beautiful places in the old town, with views of Lake Constance or amidst vineyards. Along the way, you will hear facts and anecdotes about Lake Constance wine, including what the liberal lady at Lenk-Stele has to do with wine.

Minimum number of participants 8

2

The historic 17th century castle mill is located at the foot of the old castle Meersburg, which towers imposingly above it. Right here is also the Bear Fountain with seats, and we try another glass of an excellent Lake Constance wine.

3

The Schnabelgiere fountain shows figures from the traditional Meersburg carnival. Our city guide will explain what this is all about and which traditions are used to celebrate carnival in Meersburg.

4

Through the alleys of Meersburg we continue to the Obertor from the 13th century. It was formerly the northern gateway to the city and part of the city fortification, which is still preserved in parts.
Enjoy another glass of selected Lake Constance wine in a secluded corner of the Meersburg Upper Town.

5

The path now leads down to the lively market square and the town hall of Meersburg, which was built in 1501. From here it is only a few steps to the old Meersburg Castle, whose foundations date back to the 8th century and which is connected to the town by a drawbridge. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the impressive castle and the illustrious residents of earlier times.

Please note that as part of this city tour, Meersburg Castle can only be viewed from the outside.

6

In the immediate vicinity of the old castle Meersburg is the New Castle, which was built at the beginning of the 18th century by the former prince-bishops here as a residence. The castle is in Baroque splendour and proudly faces Lake Constance. The baroque garden terrace was once the home of the powerful prince-bishops, who were also sovereigns of the German-side Lake Constance region. Enjoy the view of the beautiful Rococo exterior facade of the castle as well as the overwhelming view of Lake Constance, over to the Swiss shore and - in clear weather - to the mountains of the Alps, and taste a glass of selected wine from the Lake Constance region.

Please note that the new castle can only be partially visited from the inside as part of this city tour.

7

A short detour takes you to the small but magnificent castle chapel. Built in 1750, it features furnishings created by leading artists of the time. Our city guide describes and explains this gem, which you might otherwise pass by without noticing.

8

The traditional wine village of Meersburg has had a wine museum, the Vineum, since 2016. It originated from the former hospital and shows a large, historic torch in the vestibule, which was used to squeeze the grapes until 100 years ago and then turn their juice into wine by expert hands. Our guide will explain how this happened technically, and you will also learn a lot about the history of viticulture on Lake Constance.

Please note that the Vineum Wine Museum can only be partially visited from the inside as part of this city tour.

9

There is evidence that wine has been grown in Meersburg since 1210. The Meersburg State Winery belongs to the state of Baden-Württemberg and has been part of this wine-growing tradition for over 70 years. A variety of excellent wines are produced on a total of 63 hectares. Follow the cellar master's recommendation and try a glass of selected Meersburg wine in the middle of a vineyard.

10

The sculptor Peter Lenk lives and works on Lake Constance. Since 2007, Meersburg has been home to the 15 m high “Magic Pillar” he created. Here you will get to know more or less famous figures of Meersburg's past, whom the sculptor portrays in his usual satirical way.
With a wonderful panoramic view over Lake Constance, Meersburg Castle and the New Castle, our guide and wine ambassador will serve you another glass of Lake Constance wine.

11

The lakeside promenade continues into Unterstadtstrasse to the Meersburg winegrowers' association, which has been organized since 1884. With 50 hectares of vineyards, the winegrowers' association is somewhat smaller than the Meersburg state winery, but it also produces award-winning wines. Here, too, you follow the cellar master's recommendation and enjoy a glass of Lake Constance wine at the end of our city tour.

12

The terminus is at Bismarckplatz. Your guided tour with wine tasting will be rounded off here with a culinary speciality of the Lake Constance region - let yourself be surprised by what your guide has in store for you!
