Just 10 or 15 minutes after departure and leaving the city, there are interesting waterfalls on the Cijevna river and rock formations shaped by river erosion. The Cijevna River originates in Albania, and after emerging from a 1000 m deep canyon, it forms an exciting riverbed all the way to the mouth of the Morača River. We will walk in the immediate vicinity of the waterfall, enjoy the view of the endless vineyards and high limestone mountains that belong partly to Montenegro and partly to Albania.
About half an hour's drive from the Waterfall near the Skadar lake is located medieval capital of Montenegro called Zabljak Crnojevica that was built in the 15th century on a hill in the immediate vicinity of Lake Skadar. An easy walk leads to the fortress, which offers a wonderful view in all directions. The lake, meadows, horses, birds, domestic animals will complete the experience of the rural areas of Montenegro and the surroundings of Lake Skadar.
Just 20 minutes away from Podgorica there is Skadar Lake, the largest lake in the Balkans, the area proclaimed national park, enlisted as Ramsar wetland of international importance, famous for its birds( about 270 species), fish, water lilies, rich cultural heritage, charming villages and the best Montenegrin wine. Old Bar, inhabited since ancient times, is known for its multiculturalism and cultural heritage, where the Illyrians, the Greeks, the Venetians, the Ottomans, and the Byzantine Empire left their mark in addition to the local residents.
Archaeologists rightly call it a paradise for research, the Montenegrin Pompeii, which has been uninhabited for a century and a half, and represents a real untouched gem. The cliffs that surround it give it an extra touch of drama, and the cobbled streets and architectural heritage in the immediate surroundings contribute to an atmosphere that takes you back to some previous centuries and different ways of living.
We will walk through the interior among the walls that have surrounded it for centuries, enjoy the view from the top of the citadel, visit the archaeological museum and then have free time to complete the day with coffee served in the traditional way, a beer mixed with wild pomegranate syrup or some other local delicacy.
