The Kasbah palace is the work of Ahmed Ben Ali, son of Caïd Ali Ben Abdellah El Hamani Errifi, who expelled the English occupier in 1684. A foundation inscription chiseled in the zellige wall covering of the “Qobbat dar el Bukhari” indicates the date 1151 AH, i.e. 1737-1738 AD. Since then, this monument has been the seat of power and the symbol of local authority.
The Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures represents an essential heritage site and an important part of the collective Mediterranean memory. It is also among the oldest cultural institutions testifying to the richness and diversity of the Mediterranean basin.
