This is not your average walk in the forest. This walk helps create wellness through exposure to phytocydes released into the air by the evergreen trees to protect themselves from harm. These phytocydes trigger our bodies to create additional white blood cells which are our "fighter" cells. So by the trees protecting themselves, they also protect us. In addition, "Twenty to 30 minutes of nature three times a week, or as a regular part of your weekly schedule may open the door to many long-term emotional, mental and physical benefits" said Dr. Jason Strauss, director of geriatric psychiatry at Harvard-affiliated Cambridge Health Alliance. So imagine the benefits after two hours! Interestingly, in British Columbia, doctors are able to prescribe time in nature through the ParX program.
Our standard walks are on each Thursday evening. If you would like to book a walk at a different time, please let us know.
We will meet at the Barriere River Walk entrance at the north end of Yard Road where there is a parking area. You can also participate virtually online. You can follow us via Zoom from wherever you'd like to be...in nature, in your yard, in your home...anywhere.
