About this experience

Step back in time to the golden era of the Austrian aristocracy on this exclusive private tour to the Vienna Alps. Unlike standard day trips, this experience offers the luxury of a professional two-person crew: a private driver ensures a smooth and safe drive on mountain roads, while your expert guide provides full accompaniment and personal attention throughout the day.

Your journey follows the footsteps of Emperor Franz Joseph and Sigmund Freud, starting in the elegant resort towns of Reichenau an der Rax and Payerbach. Admire grand 19th-century villas and soak in the "Fin de Siècle" atmosphere—perhaps with a traditional coffee or brunch in a historic pavilion. The adventure continues as you board the historic Rax Cable Car to ascend 1,600 meters (approx. 5,250 ft). Whether you choose a scenic lunch on the mountain or in the valley, this tour is fully flexible to your pace. Travel in a spacious vehicle with panoramic windows, designed for deep relaxation and pure visual pleasure.

1

We begin our immersion into the "Sommerfrische" (imperial summer retreat). Stroll past elegant 19th-century villas and the Spa Park where the Viennese elite spent their summers. We can stop at a traditional confectionery for a morning coffee and exquisite cake, or even a light brunch (optional), soaking up the nostalgic ambiance while your guide shares stories of the monarchy.

2

A short drive takes us to the Rax Cable Car station. In just minutes, you are whisked up to 1,545 meters (5,070 ft) (Tickets included). Step out into a different world of fresh, crisp air. The Rax plateau offers a unique experience: enjoy a guided, easy walk along flat paths suitable for all fitness levels. Depending on your preference, we can reserve a table for lunch at the "Ottohaus" mountain lodge with a panoramic terrace or return to the valley for a meal at a refined restaurant.

3

On our way back to Vienna, we make a final atmospheric stop at the Semmering Pass. Your guide will take you to the legendary "20-Schilling View." Gaze upon the spectacular double-viaduct of the Semmering Railway (UNESCO World Heritage) surrounded by dense forests—a perfect photo opportunity to end the day.
