Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Mt. Inunaki is regarded as one of the oldest sacred mountains in Japan. According to recent historical research and advances in the academic study of Shugen-do, Mt. Inunaki is now considered the birthplace of Shugen-do. We hike up this mountain and waterfall practice. About 35 minutes bus transportation from Izumisano station to Mt. Inunaki and its return transportation is included in the tour duration.

2
Stop 2

We visit the Shiporyuji temple and do the Goma ceremony, a Mountain Asceticism known as “Shugen-do.” Goma means “to burn” in Sanskrit. As fire burns away everything on the ground, including even defilement and worldly desires, it is believed to be sacred. We offer your wishes at the “Gomadan” altar by making a holy fire in front of Honzon (principal image of Buddha), Kurikara Fudo Myo-o.

3
Stop 3

You can experience bathing in the Inunaki Hot Spring onsen. Choose between two types of hot spring pools. Enjoy natural hot spring bathing in the Open-air bath with a view of a mountain stream, or the comfort of an Indoor large bath.
