Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

This is an exciting and spectacular sport, with a trip to the races being one of the most memorable and often surprising highlights of a visit to Abu Dhabi. Bring family or friends and cheer on characterful camels as they gallop around a specially made track. You will be pleasantly surprised at the impressive speeds that these seemingly ungainly creatures can reach. Races normally take place on weekend mornings, with additional races on public holidays.

Head to the Al Wathba Camel Race Track (about 45km east of Abu Dhabi on Al Ain Road), or to the Al Maqam Track near Al Ain, Abu Dhabi’s garden city about an hour and a half away from the capital, to get a taste of this traditional and fun-filled sport. Try to get to the racetracks as early as possible to soak up the atmosphere in full. Entrance to the races is free.
