Detailed itinerary

1

Facing the Church you will discover how Van Gogh's gaze and sensitivity transformed reality into painting. This work will be your entry point into the fascinating world of Van
Gogh, a mystery that will gradually unfold as you stroll through Auvers-sur-Oise. From street to landscape, from iconic place to life scene, you will follow the painter's footsteps and explore the inspirations behind his last canvases.

2

You will make a stop at the Van Gogh Park, where several sculptures of the painter, created by the sculptor Zadkine, pay tribute to his tormented genius. It is here that Vincent will offer you an overview of his journey, retracing the key moments that led him to Auvers-sur-Oise. To better understand his artistic path and the influences that shaped his work, he will revisit nine pivotal moments in his life,
each a fascinating and sometimes controversial episode, such as the famous ear-cutting incident. Nine decisive moments that shaped his destiny and infused his painting with a heartbreaking intensity.

3

The Auberge Ravoux will be the next stop on our stroll. This artist's café is a place full of emotions. It is here that Van Gogh stayed in Auvers-sur-Oise, and it is also here that he passed away, in a modest room. You will be moved by the last portrait painted by Van Gogh: that of Adeline Ravoux, the daughter of the innkeeper. Vincent will then share with you his obsession with portraiture and self-portraiture.

4

What was the affliction that plagued the painter? You will attempt to answer this question in front of Van Gogh's 'Roots' his last landscape and final inspiration. You will discover the bold audacity of this final painting, before being struck with horror as you learn about the different 'treatments' inflicted on psychiatric patients in the 19th century, which Van Gogh himself endured. What, then, was the ailment that tormented Vincent Van Gogh? Facing 'The Roots,' his ultimate painting, you will attempt to unravel this mystery by contemplating the last landscape that inspired the painter. You will discover the wild audacity of this unfinished work, before being overwhelmed with fear as you dive into the world of treatments inflicted on psychiatric patients in the 19th century. Brutal and archaic practices,
of which Van Gogh himself was a victim.

5

Over the village, lies the wheatfield that inspired Van Gogh's Wheatfield with Crows. You will walk through it following Van Gogh and hear about his suicide attempt and how he committed suicide in this field (and failed).
His brother Théo then joined him before Van Gogh eventually left this world.

6

A quick walk will then lead from the Wheet Field and the cemetery where Van Gogh is burried.

Your journey in Auvers-sur-Oise ends with emotion around the greatest mystery: who killed Vincent Van Gogh? Himself, society, misery... or something else?

Elements of an answer will emerge through of one of his last paintings, "Wheat Field with Crows", a painting with striking dramatic power. Facing this very wheat field, you will hear the poignant words of his final letter to his dear brother Théo.

Your journey will then conclude at the cemetery of Auvers-sur-Oise, a place of reflection where Vincent and Théo rest side by side, forever united under a shared bed of ivy.
