About this experience

This tour visits two significant UNESCO World Heritage Sites that showcase key aspects of ancient Greek history. Start at Thermopylae, the famous narrow pass where in 480 BC, King Leonidas and his small force of Spartan warriors made a legendary stand against the invading Persian army, exemplifying courage and sacrifice.

Next, explore Delphi, once considered the center of the world in ancient Greek culture. At this sacred site, you will see the Temple of Apollo, where the Pythia, the oracle, delivered her prophecies. Wander through the ancient sanctuary dedicated to Athena and the Treasury of the Athenians, which housed valuable offerings. The site’s rich archaeological remains, combined with stunning views of the surrounding landscape, reflect Delphi’s importance as a spiritual, cultural, and intellectual hub of the ancient world. Directly opposite the monument of Leonidas of Sparta is a volcanic area with several of sulfur hot springs. According to the Ancient Greeks, these springs were believed to be a gateway to the Underworld (Hades). It is further mentioned in Ancient Greek Mythology as the place where the Greek hero Heracles washed off the poison from his legendary battle with the Hydra, thus turning the waters into hot springs.
