Hike over the rolling terrain and through the temperate rainforest of Chilkat Lake State Park in Haines, Alaska! In our 5 hour adventure, we will be able to enjoy magnificent glacier views from across the fjord as we hike through temperate rainforest and beach-side meadows, known as Moose Meadows. As we make our way out on to the easily-accessed yet remote beach, we will enjoy a fresh picnic-style lunch before returning to the trailhead.
Enjoy the simplicity and beauty of small-town Haines on your way to Chilkat State Park. Along the way, your guides will regale you with local natural history, geology, and Gold Rush tales as they point out snow-capped peaks, thick timber forests, and the abundant wildlife.
This half-day excursion begins with a short tour of the historic Fort Seward before embarking on a scenic drive from downtown Haines past Lutak Inlet and into the lush forest of Chilkat State Park. Fort Seward was the first Army base in Alaska and still holds a commanding presence along the beachway.
We will hike within Chilkat State Park, a haven of woods, beaches, flora, and fauna.Your guide will regale you with local and natural history, point out the amazing growth along the trail, and keep an eye out for creatures like humpack whales breaching in the water, bald eagles flying overhead, and more!
We will meet you at the end of the cruise ship pier. Your guide will be holding a sign with the name of your tour.
