First a nice relaxing swim in the thermal water of Lake Vouliagmeni. Then a beautiful coastal drive to the ancient silver mines of Lavrion.
You will see the actual ancient industrial site where you will learn the process of extracting the silver in ancient times and a visit to the small but interesting museum of Lavrion. Also, a visit to one of the most beautiful ancient Greek temples with an amazing landscape and breathtaking views. The temple of Poseidon overlooking the Aegean Sea. Time can be arranged so you get to view the sunset also, from the temple.

Tour starts with your driver picking you up at your doorstep and the most scenic coastal driving route in Greece begins, the famous Athenian riviera, all the way to Sounion, where the majestic temple of Poseidon's is and where the ancient silver mines where. One hour drive where you will see islands, a lake, the blue Aegean sea, beautiful landscape and hear stories of Greek history and mythology.

Stop 2

A short stop to admire an amazing geological fornation, a thermal lake next to the sea, with impressive vertical limestone walls. The lake of Vouliagmeni. Swim in the therapeutic water and enjoy a nice peeling from the tiny fish in the lake.

Now arriving to the area of sounion where the temple of Poseidon is, a bit further north you enter the beautiful National Park of Sounio, a mountain with a pine forest. There is a normal road and only a small part of well maintened dirt road to arrive to the ancient site of where they processed the minerals to extract the silver. You will see with your eyes the technology they used thousands of years ago. An amazing site and proof of the innovative minds of ancient Greece. Allong the way you will see many entrances of ancient mineshafts. 20000 thousand slaves where working here. The ''dollar'' of these times was the silver drachma, widely accepted in all of the mediteranean.

A tiny museum although worth a visit and support to see some of the original silver drachma coins found in the area. Also some part of the decoration of the temple of Poseidon that you will see later on.

For some this is the oldest ever ancient Greek theater built around 600BCE. An interesting shape not the dominant amphitheatrical shape. Amazing sea view of the island of Makronisos a former excile island.

Now pass by from the cute little port of Lavrion and the modern city. An old former industrial port. Stop for lunch or dinner can be arranged here if desired. Otherwhise 10 minutes away close to the temple of Poseidon. Which is the next and stop before heading back to Athens.

Now the highlight of the tour. The majestic temple of Poseidon overlooking the blue Aegean sea and the sun reflecting in the water like gold and one the most beautiful sunsets in a thrilling landscape. History , mythology and natural beauty.
