Completed in 1783, Castillo San Cristóbal protected San Juan from land-based attacks and remains one of the largest Spanish fortifications in the Americas. Often called “El Morro,” this six-level fortress guards the entrance to San Juan Bay and stands as part of the UNESCO-listed San Juan National Historic Site.
