This is one of the most amazing drives of your vacation! ...I'm Kel Thompson, the owner/operator and your tour guide! Yes, I do all my own tours (and stunts!) I've guided over 10,000 guests for multiple companies in my career here in Alaska and now offer my own private tours in an amazing new Mercedes Sprinter! Before guiding I was a standup comedian and combine humor with a fervent love of Alaskan history. This all goes into your cruise transfer, which goes down the mountain lined Turnagain Arm and through the historic Anton Anderson tunnel! Along the way, we'll pull out for photo stops and a coffee time permitting! I am very flexible and want to make this part of your journey just as fun and memorable as the rest of your vacation! I have limited availability so book early and message me any special requests via the app! (I can accommodate up to 10 people per tour.) I look forward taking you from Anchorage to Whittier!
Pickup included
This is a private and narrated scenic cruise transportation from Anchorage to Whittier Cruise Ship ports. This starts at 12 noon, to allow us to get to the Anton Anderson Tunnel on the half hour. I understand if you are checking out at 11a, and if so please message me via the app and I will make every effort to arrive earlier for your pickup. However, given the cruise ship schedule noon pickup works best.
Here is a brief overview of your transportation from Anchorage to Whittier.
I drive a new Mercedes Sprinter seating up to 11 passengers with generous luggage space.
12p I’ll pick you and your group up at your hotel, help load your bags, and get everyone settled before we head out. Complimentary glacier water is provided for the ride.
12p - 1p We’ll travel along the stunning Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic drives in Alaska. When time allows, we’ll stop at Beluga Point for photos. During the drive, I’ll share stories about Alaska’s history and the landscapes we’re passing. Bald eagles are common along this route, and on occasion we may spot moose—or even a bear.
1:15p We will make another photo stop at the Portage Glacier Lake, just before we line up for the toll tunnel, known as the Anton Anderson Tunnel. It is super interesting, I honestly love it. The tunnel opens at the half hour to pass into Whittier, it is one lane wide and we share it with a train (not at the same time, we hope ;) But everything is timed to go through the tunnel on the half hour.
1:45p We will arrive at the cruise ship, here I will assist with your luggage, they go to the longshoremen. I will help make sure they are properly tagged and that you have your passports in hand. Your luggage will then arrive straight in your staterooms.
This is a newer listing, but I have over 40 five-star reviews on Viator and TripAdvisor. I’m punctual, professional, and—according to some guests—pretty entertaining. I’ll let you decide.
