About this experience

AlmaDouro was born from a love for the river and the city. For us, luxury is simple: warmth, authenticity, and true care in the details. Join a cozy small-group Douro cruise (max 7) from Douro Marina, near the fishing village of Afurada. Over ~2 hours, discover Porto from the river as we sail beneath its iconic bridges and along the historic waterfronts of Ribeira and Villa Nova de Gaia. On board, enjoy an informal tasting of 4 quality Port wines from small Douro producers, curated with Blend.pt, served with tiny pairings to highlight each glass (not a meal). Music, Wi-Fi, restroom and warm blankets on cooler days included. No crowds, no microphones — just a relaxed atmosphere, conversation, and Porto’s beauty, the AlmaDouro way.

Designed by Italian architect Nicolau
Nasoni, the Clérigos Tower, more than 75 meters long, was completed in 1763. Initially its function was to be a bell tower, but over the years it also ended up being used as a landmark for vessels, as well as a strategic point for military combat. The visit to Torre dos Clérigos includes a 225-step journey to the top where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city of Porto and Gaia.

3
Stop 3

It is a metal bridge with two decks, built between 1881 and 1886, connecting the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia separated by the Douro River.

The Serra do Pilar Monastery is an austere
17th century church. It has been classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since
1996. The Church, classified as a National Monument, stands out for its circular plan, covered by an imposing hemispherical vault, surrounded by a balcony and crowned by a lantern. Inside, the gilded and white carved work stands out.
It preserves a beautiful cloister, also classified as a National Monument, with a circular vault with a central rib supported by 36 Ionic columns. This Mannerist monastery is a unique example in Portugal, as the church and cloister are circular in plan, a model originating from civil architecture. Its geographical location was crucial in 1809, during the invasions by Napoleonic troops and in 1832-33 as a military base during the liberal struggles.
Elevated to the category of fortress, it has since been converted into military barracks

6

The D. Maria Pia Bridge is a railway infrastructure, which carried the Northern Line over the Douro River, between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, in the North of Portugal. It was inaugurated on November 4, 1877 and closed on June 24, 1991, having been replaced by Ponte de São João.
It is considered, along with the Garabit Viaduct, as the greatest masterpieces created by engineer Gustave Eiffel. At the time of its inauguration, it was the bridge with the largest iron arch in the world. [It has been classified as a National Monument since 1982.

7

With 66.35 ha, the Douro Estuary Local Nature Reserve is located on the south bank of the mouth of this river, close to the fishing village of Afurada, encompassing Cabedelo and São Paio bay, where there is a salt marsh.
Among the natural values it protects, the highlight goes to the birds that live here or pass through here and that can be easily observed, as it is located on the migratory corridor known as the "East Atlantic Route”.

8

The experience ends at the mouth of the Douro, right next to the Atlantic Ocean
