Dazu rock carvings are the best preserved of all Chinese grottoes in China and most of the caves and statues have hardly suffered any serious damage. The Dazu Rock Carvings, located in Dazu District, Chongqing, is a series of Chinese religious sculptures and carvings dating back to the 7th century. The carvings, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are known for their exceptional artistic quality, as well as their large number and rich diversity of subject matter. The sculptures depict Buddhist, Confucian, and Taoist beliefs, and are spread across 75 protected sites in the region. The most famous of these carvings is the Baodingshan.

There are more than 50,000 Buddhist,Taoist and Confucian rock carvings and 100,000 characters of inscriptions dotted around Dazu.
