Hiking Through Cypress Forests & Historic Villages
If you're looking for an unforgettable hike that combines natural beauty, history, and a true Cretan experience, the Cypress Villages Hike in Apokoronas is a must! Starting and ending in the beatiful village of Vafes, this 11 km trail takes you on a 4-hour journey through stunning landscapes and charming traditional villages like Tzizifes, Fres, and Nipos.
The path is well-maintained but offers a moderate challenge with its ups and downs, making it suitable for most hikers. You’ll be surrounded by cypress forests, dramatic mountain landscape, and beautiful olive groves with ancient trees. Along the way, expect to encounter friendly goats and sheep, discover freshwater springs, and breathe in the fragrant aroma of wild herbs that fill the air.
One of the highlights is visiting the Krionerida Cave, which adds a touch of adventure and mystery to the experience.

In case you will use a public transport, our starting and ending point is Vryses. We will meet at the bus stop of Vryses and we will hike to Vafes. It will be approximatelly one hour longer as an initial time of the hike.
