This two hour boat ride takes you into the bay of Ísafjörður exploring wildlife and enjoying great mountain view. Along the way your guide will tell you about life in the Westfjords and about the amazing bird and marine life.
Our goal is sailing around Vigur island, exploring puffins on the water, black guillemots and eiders. On and around Vigur island there are almost 100.000 puffins, 1500 black guillemots (biggest colony in Iceland) and thousands of eiders. The tour also takes you through areas where it is very likely to see hump back whales, but we can not guarantee that. Remember to bring a camera, binocular is also very good for looking at the seals when the tide is low as they sit sunbathing on the rocks.
Please note that if the weather conditions make it difficult to sail around the island of Vigur, we will head to a nearby fjord where puffins are also abundant and the sea is often considerably calmer. The destination therefore largely depends on the weather and sea conditions
Vigur Island in the Westfjords of Iceland is a peaceful, windswept gem where nature takes center stage. In summer, the island comes alive with a bustling puffin colony, giving visitors the chance to see these colorful birds up close in a truly wild setting.
Please meet us at our boat house. You'll find an image and a map of the docks in the tour description. If you are arriving with a cruise ship, please know that our boat house is just a few steps away from the cruise terminal.
