Materuni is home to the Chagga tribe and remains one of the few authentic tribal villages near Kilimanjaro. Located just 15 km from Moshi Town, it’s also the last village before the entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park.
Your adventure begins with a visit to Materuni Waterfalls, reached by a scenic 40-minute hike. The trail can be muddy and slippery, so good hiking boots are highly recommended. Along the way, you'll enjoy stunning views — and on a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit.
When you arrive at the falls, you'll be greeted by an impressive 80-meter cascade. The natural pool beneath the waterfall invites you for a refreshing swim, so be sure to bring your swimwear!
