The temple was built mainly during the reign of Amenophis III and Ramses II and served religious ceremonies as well as the famous Opet festival. Particularly impressive are the monumental columns, the enormous statues of Ramses II and the well-preserved reliefs. The Valley of the Kings is one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt and is located on the western bank of the Nile near Luxor. For many centuries it served as the burial place of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom, including famous rulers such as Ramses II and Tutankhamun. In the elaborately designed tombs, colorful murals and hieroglyphics impress, depicting religious texts, afterlife and scenes from the life of the pharaohs. The well-preserved burial chambers provide a fascinating insight into burial rituals and belief in life after death in ancient Egypt. A visit to the Valley of the Kings is an unforgettable experience and an absolute highlight of any Luxor trip.

5

The Hatshepsut Temple in Deir el-Bahari is one of the most architecturally exceptional temple complexes of ancient Egypt. It was built in honor of the pharaoh Hatshepsut, one of the few female rulers of Egypt. The terrace temple nestles harmoniously against the rock face of the Theban mountains and impresses with its clear symmetry and monumental columnar halls. Relief depictions tell of religious rituals, the famous expedition to Punt, and the Queen's life.
