Detailed itinerary

1

You are currently in the Safranier district. It is part of the ancient center of Antibes, and reveals beautiful picturesque alleys that make us feel like in a small Mediterranean village. But it is a place that has a very special history

2

Look here at this amazing statue. It is called the Challenge, and depicts a character standing on the ramparts, stretching his foot in the void. If it can give rise to many interpretations, its Contributor, Nicolas Lavarenne, explains it as a symbol of a step towards the unknown, and I quote, “one that can upset a lifetime”.

3

Here you arrive in front of the Poets' Garden. Along the city walls, this small public park features exotic plants, cacti and succulents that give it a very special look. Inside, there are some works and quotes that pay tribute to the great French and international poets. You notice in particular the bust of Victor Hugo

4

Here you are in front of the last washhouse still present in Antibes. It dates from the 19th century. Washing machines, you must have seen them in many other cities in France. But do you know their story? They usually all date back to the 19th century, and it is no coincidence that a wave of construction was launched at this time.

5

Take a look on your right: you are facing the oldest fountain in the city! And it comes straight from antiquity. During this period, two Roman aqueducts were built to supply the Antipolis city with water.

6

Here you are in one of the most pleasant squares in the anti-wood city center!

7

Here you are in Rue de la République, one of the most commercial streets in Antibes! Here you have the choice: ready-to-wear, jewelry, shoes...

8

Look at the building on your right, which is at the corner of Paul Martelli Street. This chapel with neo-Gothic facade is part of the historical heritage of Antibes.

9

We now arrive at the National Square, one of the main squares of the city. Here too, you have plenty to stop for a moment to eat or have a drink!

10

We arrive here at the beginning of the Cour Masséna, one of the main streets of Antibes. In front of you, you cannot miss it, is an imposing work witness to the long history of the city.

11
Stop 11 Pass by

Here you are in front of one of the most famous markets in Provence! It is open every morning from Tuesday to Sunday so even if it is not open during your visit, you will certainly have the opportunity to discover it at another time.

12

This building is one of the most important in Antibes. This is Grimaldi Castle, a building that was built from the 11th century on the foundations of an ancient Roman structure.

13

This beautiful colorful church is the Cathedral of Antibes, classified as Historic Monuments since 1945. The largest church in the city, it has a classical façade and contains several masterpieces of religious art.

14

There’s nothing like strolling along the Mediterranean Sea to complete this tour of Antibes! The Promenade Amiral de Grasse promises magnificent panoramas and a pleasant walk close to the city center.

15

From here, you have a great view on the beach of La Gravette, which is right in the center of Antibes.

16

Here you are in front of one of the emblematic viewpoints of Antibes, overlooking its port, one of the largest marina in Europe.

17

Here we are in Boulevard d’Aguillon, just a few steps from the port. On your right, pierced in what was once the city walls, is the Marine Gate.

18

This is the bastion of Saint-Jaume. Entrance is free but subject to opening hours, so if the site is closed when you arrive, check the opening hours to be able to enter.

19

This monumental sculpture, about 10 meters high, depicts a man sitting facing the sea, is the work of Catalan artist Jaume Plensa.

20
Stop 20 Pass by

The port of Antibes has a long history behind it: already at the time of the Phocaeans, in the 4th century BC. – C., Saint-Roch Cove was used for trade and as a naval base in the city that was then called Antipolis.

21

The history of the city of Antibes is far from very recent: founded in the 4th century BC. C. under the name of Antipolis, it was the Greeks who settled there even before the arrival of the Romans. It then became a prosperous and developed Roman city, and its port attracted for trade wines, oils and ceramics.

22

On your left, at number 12 of the street, is the studio of an artist whose works you may have already seen in the city. You must, however, have an eye to spot his achievements. Located on the walls of buildings, on the floor in the street, on sidewalks, they are characterized by faces of men, women and children formed through cracks in the walls, holes in the floors, stains...
