Complete Tour of Granada and Masaya: History, Beauty & Tradition

Granada is one of the oldest and most iconic colonial cities in Latin America, founded in 1524 on the shores of the Great Lake of Nicaragua. On this tour, travelers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in its history, architecture, and cultural life.

From the historic Granada Port, you’ll begin a boat ride on the majestic Lake Nicaragua, the largest lake in Central America. During the journey, you’ll navigate among the famous islets — small volcanic formations covered with lush vegetation, home to birds, monkeys, and in some cases, local families living in lakeside houses.

This ride offers a peaceful and picturesque experience, perfect for taking photos, observing nature, and learning about the history of the lake and its 300+ islets. You’ll also make a brief scenic stop at San Pablo Port, where you can enjoy stunning views of the lake and the Mombacho Volcano.

You’ll visit Masaya’s most iconic market, known for its vibrant and cultural atmosphere. Here, travelers can admire and purchase a wide variety of traditional Nicaraguan handicrafts: folkloric masks, embroidered textiles, hammocks, ceramics, leather goods, carved wood, and handmade souvenirs. It’s an ideal place to connect with the local culture.

You’ll end the tour with a stop at the famous Catarina Viewpoint, one of Nicaragua’s most breathtaking spots. From this elevated point, you can enjoy a spectacular view of Apoyo Lagoon, an ancient volcanic crater filled with crystal-clear water, surrounded by lush vegetation and small rural communities.
