After exploring the breathtaking heights of Pico do Arieiro, we begin our descent into the lush heart of Madeira’s Laurissilva forest as we make our way to Ribeiro Frio. Surrounded by fresh mountain air and vibrant greenery, this peaceful village is the starting point of the famous PR11 Levada dos Balcões. Here, you’ll set off on a gentle yet unforgettable walk along one of Madeira’s most iconic levadas. The trail leads you through dense forest, past flowing water channels and onto a spectacular viewpoint overlooking deep valleys and dramatic peaks. After completing the beautiful PR11 Levada dos Balcões hike, we’ll take a well-deserved break at a cosy local bar in Ribeiro Frio. Whether you prefer an espresso, a galão, or simply a quiet moment to rest your legs, this pause allows you to recharge before continuing your adventure. After enjoying a relaxing break at the local bar, we continue our journey toward Cova da Roda, where the adventure takes an exciting turn. As we leave the village behind and climb deeper into the mountains, the scenery becomes wilder and more untouched. This is where the off-road fun begins. Our 4x4 will take you along rugged tracks carved through the forest, offering a thrilling and immersive ride through Madeira’s natural beauty. With sweeping views, fresh mountain air, and the feeling of true exploration, the off-roading experience at Cova da Roda adds a dynamic and adrenaline-filled moment to your day, showcasing a side of the island that few visitors ever get to see.

From Cova da Roda, we continue the adventure with a little more off-road driving, taking you deeper into Madeira’s untouched wilderness. The trail becomes narrower and more exciting as we navigate through dense forest, winding paths and fresh mountain air. This final stretch of off-road leads us to one of the island’s hidden gems: the stunning Água d’Alto waterfall. Surrounded by lush greenery and the peaceful sound of flowing water, this secluded spot offers a magical moment to pause, take photos, and appreciate Madeira’s natural beauty. It’s a perfect blend of adventure and serenity, making this stop one of the highlights of your journey.

After the serene beauty of the Água d’Alto waterfall, we head to the charming village of Santana, where your adventure continues with a delicious lunch. Here, you’ll enjoy authentic Madeiran flavours in a relaxed and welcoming setting, refueling for the next part of the day. After lunch, you’ll have the chance to explore the village and admire its famous traditional Santana houses—colourful triangular homes with iconic thatched roofs that reflect Madeira’s rich rural heritage. Wander through this picturesque setting, capture memorable photos, and immerse yourself in the island’s culture and history, making Santana a perfect blend of flavour, tradition, and discovery.
