The park is decorated with colorful mosaics displaying phrases of Peruvian poets and is ideal for taking pictures of the coastal landscape.
Continue to Huaca Pucllana, an ancient pre-Inca ceremonial center belonging to the Lima culture (200–700 AD). In this archaeological site, located in the heart of the modern district of Miraflores, you will know how rituals and offerings were made to their deities, as well as appreciate its imposing adobe pyramid of more than 25 meters high. (Scenic stop or entrance, depending on availability and tour type)
We will reach the heart of the city, starting the tour in Plaza San Martin, surrounded by elegant neocolonial style buildings. Then we will make a pleasant pedestrian walk along the Union Jirón to the Plaza Mayor of Lima, where the city was founded in 1535. At this point, you will see the main monuments of the viceroyal power: the Government Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, the Cathedral of Lima and the Municipality of Lima, all with imposing carved wooden balconies that evoke the splendour of the colonial period.
The visit continues in the Convent of San Francisco, one of the most emblematic temples of the Peruvian viceroyalty. You will walk through its cloisters decorated with 17th century Sevillian tiles, its library with valuable ancient manuscripts and finally descend to the catacombs, an underground system that served as a cemetery during colonial times, with thousands of carefully ordered human remains. This experience will take you back to the past and allow you to understand the religious and social history of ancient Lima.
