Stop 1

You will explore the interior of the Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most important Gothic monuments in Portugal. Inside, you will visit the main church and royal tombs, learn the story behind its construction after the Battle of Aljubarrota, walk through the cloisters, and finish at the famous Unfinished Chapels, open to the sky and considered one of the most iconic symbols of Portuguese history.

You will step inside the Convent of Christ in Tomar, the former headquarters of the Knights Templar in Portugal. You will explore the unique Charola, the circular Templar sanctuary, discover secret symbols and sacred geometry, admire the famous Manueline Window, and walk through the fortress and cloisters while learning how the Templars evolved into the Order of Christ and shaped Portuguese history.

You will explore the medieval Castle of Tomar, the original Templar fortress that protected the Convent of Christ. Walking along the castle walls and towers, you will learn how the Knights Templar designed the defensive system, controlled the surrounding territory, and established Tomar as their strategic headquarters in Portugal, with panoramic views over the town and countryside.
