Located in Uji, Byodo-in is a masterpiece of Japanese Buddhist architecture and a symbol of the "Pure Land" (paradise).

The Phoenix Hall: This stunning central hall is the temple's most famous feature. Its graceful silhouette is said to resemble a phoenix spreading its wings, and it is so iconic that it is featured on the back of the Japanese 10-yen coin.

A Mirror of Paradise: The hall is built on an island in the middle of a large pond. When the water is calm, the reflection of the vermillion temple creates a breathtaking, symmetrical view that bridges the gap between reality and heaven.

Museum Hoshokan: A modern, underground treasure house that displays breathtaking 11th-century Buddhist statues and the original temple bells.
