Table Mountain, an iconic landmark in Cape Town, has a rich history dating back millions of years. The mountain is estimated to be around 260 million years old, with its unique flat top formed through erosion and weathering processes.
For the indigenous Khoisan people, Table Mountain was a sacred place, known as "Hoedjies-Peak" or "Mountain of the Sea". The mountain played a significant role in their spiritual & cultural practices.In 1503, the Portuguese explorer Antonio de Saldanha became the first European to climb the mountain, naming it "Taboa do Cabo" or "Table of the Cape". The Dutch East India Company later established a settlement at the foot of the mountain, using it as a lookout point & a source of fresh water.
