About this experience

In this small-group tour, we uncover the lives, struggles and legacies of the migrants who shaped the island into the thriving port city it is today. Some highlights of this tour include: Chinatown’s darker past of opium dens, the dubious coolie (hard labour) trade and death houses; must-see sites around the Singapore River and Chinatown; murals and sculptures that bring stories to life; and exploring Singapore’s rich mix of regional sub-cultures and dialect groups from China and India. Few places in the world preserve these distinct identities so vividly, and on this tour you’ll get to explore firsthand how migrant communities kept their cultures alive through temples, clan associations, and heritage streets that remain uniquely well preserved in Singapore today.
