Detailed itinerary

1

Your adventure begins at Middle Pier, where you board the Morning in Maine ketch at 9:00 AM. The winds are usually calm in the morning, offering smooth conditions and excellent wildlife‑watching opportunities as you set sail. This is also where the tour returns

2

Shortly after departure, the boat sails past this historic lighthouse situated at the end of the nearly mile‑long Rockland Breakwater. You’ll see it from the water as part of the scenic route toward Monroe Island.

3

Another highlight along the route, this iconic cliffside lighthouse provides classic views of the Maine coastline as you pass it en route to Monroe Island.

4

After approximately 1 hour of sailing, you arrive at Monroe Island, a 250‑acre island preserve managed by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust. You’ll be shuttled ashore via a 12‑ft tender. Guests have 2–2.5 hours to hike, beachcomb, or explore island trails passing through rocky beaches, fern‑filled forests, and granite bluffs.

5

We will sail into Penobscot Bay and see some of Monroe’s rocky granite bluffs while we enjoy our lunch and then have a brisk sail back into Rockland on the afternoon breeze. Guests will have the opportunity to help raise the sails and steer the boat as we harness the breeze, shut down the engine and hopefully catch a little refreshing salt spray. We will return to Middle Pier in Rockland and disembark at 3pm.
