About this experience

Meet up in front of Cosmic Saltillo. A lush garden oasis serving up coffee, brews and cocktails in a unique setting that is the definition of what makes East Austin a top destination for locals to hang out at.

We begin our 2 hour walking food tour with a leisure journey through a small part of the east side and stopping for the first food bite at a local favorite food truck that has grown with the neighborhood. There we will try a delicious falafel bite.

Our journey will continue with a walk through the neighborhood taking in the Historic sites and street art to our 2nd destination, a place that was once a local convenient store turned brewery. There we try a Tex-Mex bite while learning about how this place became a local favorite brewery that has won multiple awards for their craft and a place that is literally off the beaten path.

We then end our food journey with a sweet, unique bite you can’t find anywhere else, from a local place with an Austin cult following.

Detailed itinerary

1

Starting the tour we first discover a place that was started by a pastor and his wife, considered to be the “third place” to locals, specializing in craft beer, high-quality coffee and a robust taco menu. From here we will try a savory street taco that originated in North Mexico during the 1500s, rooted in cattle ranching culture.

2

For our 2nd stop on the tour starting as a food truck, fueled by passion, creativity and support of the community, known for quality ingredients, sustainability and fair wages you will be trying small crispy deep fried patties made with chickpeas, fava beans and mixed herbs. Popular in middle eastern cuisine.

3

As we continue on our journey we will come upon a historic shop generations owned, and a staple to the East Austin Neighborhood, we will also discover a popular mural from a well known Mexican American Artist from El Paso Tx, who's made many Austin murals.

4

Along our continued journey we will see 2 more large building size murals that were painted from an East Austin resident and have become staples of art in the community

5

On this stop we will discover a freshly baked, south Asian flatbread served with a classic curried dip, balancing warm, complex spices with a smooth, velvety texture from a food truck that has become a local favorite.

6

We end our journey at a place that started as humble beginnings to brick and mortar. A true testament to Austin’s food truck culture. We indulge in a sweet treat primarily found in Midwestern Us, it delivers a fruity experience combined into a creamy, nostalgic dessert often described as reminiscent of bubblegum or cereal milk.
