After that we head to the volcano Island of Sakurajima via ferry where we will have 3 stops all about 200 meters in total walking. A world class beach(April - October swimming) with volcanic rocks that float, a natural foot hot spring, and a 1300 year old shinto shrine with stunning views of the volcano and the bay overlooking the city.

Detailed itinerary

1

Good Morning, we are starting off with a 20 minute ferry ride with great views of our beloved Sakurajima volcano. On this ferry, kids will have a chance to explore the ship and learn about Kagoshima history and geography.

2

What better way to start the morning than with a hot coffee and a foot hot spring. Laden with smooth stones to soothe the soles of your feet, we will enjoy some excellent views with volcano heated water running calf deep. This tropical beauty spot has a panoramic view of the city skyline and waterfront nature and is directly adjacent to the boardwalk of Rainbow Beach, a secluded yet developed beach with a view of the volcano where we will have beach toys inflatables and a stone protected lagoon ideal for all ages to jump in and refresh ourselves safe from ocean creatures. We will also have some of Sakurajima's fun floating volcano rocks to throw into the water.

We do have access to the adjacent bathrooms for changing and we will refresh with chilled seasonal fruits that are vine ripened and truly amazing. Forbidden from exporting, these only in Japan varieties are sweeter than candy and will get us ready to hop back on the ferry back to downtown Kagoshima.

3

We will visit this 1300 year old shrine and what a view.. The shrine was relocated from its origional location after te volcanic eruption about 100 years ago but this ancient shrine reflects on the Shinto roots and sells charms as well as some amazing Japanese shrine sights right on our pathway and not far off our pathway! Lets enjoy this shrine and inspire an understanding on the ancient Japanese beliefs which persevere to this day.

4

Ok now that we've grounded and enjoyed some nature, its time to explore the downtown of Kagoshima. We will ride a street car through the city and its a great chance to see the city in not just the shade but the AC! What a day we have had by this time but our 30 minute ride back to the cruise port goes through historic spots and if time permits, we can even swing a stop at a sweets spot or a souvenir location.

What's not included

The ferry as well as the store on Sakurajima both have options for breakfast including the award winning Udon on the boat and many types of snacks and treats at the shop by the beach.
Once we land on Sakurajima volcano, some will grab coffees or a drink on the way to the foot hot spring
