Cesky Krumlov Castle with its richly decorated high tower is one of the most visited monuments in the Czech Republic. Its architecture reflects all styles from Gothic to Rococo. Its owners were the famous Lords of Rossenberg and later the Schwarzenbergs. According to legend, the castle was the prison of the mad Don d'Austria, the illegitimate son of Emperor Rudolf II, who in a fit of madness murdered the young maid Margaret in his chamber. There are also tales of the White Lady Perchta and the vampire princess Eleonora Schwanzerberg. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park with a pond and a revolving Baroque theatre, where various theatrical performances are held on summer days. Every year it hosts the Five-Leaved Rose Festival, when the town is literally flooded with medieval stalls and people in costume. The Vltava River flows through the town, creating a picturesque panorama. This also gives the town a fairytale atmosphere. There are many museums, shops, restaurants and cafes.
